The Bloxy Awards are an annual celebration honoring the creative, artistic, and technical achievements of the global Roblox community. Rather than simply hosting a pre-recorded stream on another video platform, we decided to up the ante by bringing the entire event to Roblox itself, creating an immersive experience that was part theme park ride, part animated awards show. The experience featured a scavenger hunt with hidden easter eggs, earnable avatar cosmetics, and even a virtual concert featuring the English rock band Royal Blood.
The concept was to create something that felt like a journey through the Roblox universe. Players boarded a spacecraft that took them across different worlds, all while enjoying a fully animated show that played right in front of their eyes, giving them a truly unique experience.
I was fortunate to work alongside a talented team of writers, artists, animators, and developers from the community to bring this vision to life. From the scriptwriting process to storyboarding the cinematics, I collaborated closely with everyone involved to ensure the experience felt cohesive and engaging from start to finish. Our collective effort paid off—the experience saw a peak of 855,000 concurrent players on launch day, and we achieved a 90% positive sentiment rating. “I’ve watched the Bloxys every year for like 5 years. I think I enjoy watching them to see developers get rewarded and to see if my votes were the winners. However, this year I also was excited to experience the Bloxys in game as [Roblox] pushes the boundaries of the platform as I knew it would be a fun experience.
